'Mad Square' is the sequel to the successful hilarious entertainer 'Mad.' With the popularity of the first part, 'Mad Square' generated considerable buzz. The teaser and trailer, released prior to the movie, also attracted audiences, creating expectations for a fun entertainer. But did 'Mad Square' manage to entertain audiences and meet their expectations? Let’s find out in this review.
Story:
Laddu (Vishnu) plans to marry secretly without informing his friends. However, Damodar (Sangeeth Shobhan), Ashok Kumar (Narne Nithin), and Manoj (Ram Nithin) find out and arrive at Laddu’s house. Unexpectedly, the bride elopes with another man, leaving Laddu’s wedding canceled. To help Laddu recover from his heartbreak, his friends take him on a trip to Goa. During their stay, a valuable locket is stolen in Goa, and it accidentally falls into their possession. This incident pulls them into unforeseen troubles. Max (Sunil) and Subhalekha Sudhakar are also searching for the locket. The story revolves around how these friends escape from the mess they’ve landed in.
Analysis:
As the filmmakers had previously stated, there is no logic in the plot; it's purely focused on entertainment. The director has written scenes centered around comedy, particularly the wedding episode involving Laddu, which entertains the audience well. While some scenes feel boring and drawn-out, the hilarious fun in the following scenes compensates for the dull moments.
The scenes targeting youth audiences are especially engaging. The first half mostly revolves around Laddu’s wedding, with the comedy sequences related to the wedding being well-received. The chaos created by the main characters—Nithin, Sangeeth Shobhan, and Ram Nithin—during the wedding episode works effectively.
The roles of comedians Sunil and Satyam Rajesh are designed with creativity and fun, offering ample laughter with their confusion-based comedy.
However, the lack of a college atmosphere and youthful charm that 'Mad' had is felt as a drawback in 'Mad Square.' Additionally, the absence of heroines paired with the main characters feels like a shortcoming.
The first half flows smoothly with light-hearted comedy, while the second half provides even more entertainment. The songs by Bheems, particularly the wedding song featuring Laddu and Swathi Reddy, add great energy to the film. With a runtime of only 2 hours and 7 minutes, the scenes are fast-paced, ensuring the audience never feels bored.
Performances:
Narne Nithin, Ram Nithin, Sangeeth Shobhan, and Vishnu bring energy and enthusiasm to their roles, which greatly benefits the movie. Their performances enhance the humor of the scenes created by the director. All actors display improved energy, maturity, dialogue delivery, and diction compared to their previous performances.
Sunil impresses as Bhai, showcasing his comedic skills in a unique role after 'Pushpa.' Priyanka Jawalkar plays Laila, while Satyam Rajesh appears as a police officer, delivering decent performances. Muraleedhar Goud, as Laddu’s father, provides ample comic relief.
The music by Bheems adds liveliness to the movie. Director Kalyan Shankar successfully creates a fun-filled experience around a small point, aided by diverse characters. His effort to keep the runtime short and avoid unnecessary scenes pays off, ensuring that the film entertains without any dull moments. Had additional scenes been included, it could have negatively impacted the movie.
The idea of recapping important scenes and fun dialogues from 'Mad' before diving into the plot of 'Mad Square' is clever, making it easier for the audience to connect with the story.
Overall:
Without any expectations or logical scrutiny, 'Mad Square' offers satisfying entertainment for those seeking pure fun. It serves as a good weekend time-pass entertainer for families. The film also has good commercial prospects.
