Modi is a Very Smart Leader: Trump Praises

United States President Donald Trump praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "a very smart leader" and described him as "a great friend." These comments, made at the White House, gain significance as they come just ahead of the retaliatory tariffs on Indian goods set to take effect from April 2.
Donald Trump remarked that trade negotiations between India and the United States are progressing positively and are likely to yield good results. He noted that India is among the countries that impose the highest tariffs, which he described as "terrible" and "brutal."
Referring to Modi, Donald Trump said, “Modi is a very smart leader and a good friend. We talk well when we meet.” He added that trade discussions were going well.
While United States Trade Representative Brendan Lynch is currently visiting India to work on a trade agreement, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held talks on Friday with United States Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington. Their discussions covered topics including trade, defense, technology, and migration.
