PSL Team Faces Backlash for Mocking Rohit Sharma; Fans React Sharply

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season is scheduled to begin on April 11, a delay from its usual February start due to the Champions Trophy being held this year. As a result, PSL will now coincide with the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is set to start tomorrow, presenting a rare overlap between the two major T20 leagues.

However, the PSL franchise Multan Sultans has sparked outrage among Indian cricket fans with a controversial video. The team used the voice-over of Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma along with their PSL mascot in the video. Fans have alleged that the mascot, depicted as overweight, was intentionally used to body-shame Rohit Sharma, who is often referred to as the “Hitman.”

Cricket fans have expressed their anger on social media. One user commented, “This is an extremely shameful act. Body-shaming a captain who has led India to two consecutive ICC trophies is unacceptable. First, improve your cricketing standards.” Another said, “At least win a single ICC trophy before resorting to such cheap tricks. Titles can only be won by playing quality cricket.”

Some fans have demanded that the voice of Rohit Sharma be removed from the video, urging Pakistani authorities to take action. “The voice of Rohit should be removed from that video. Pakistani authorities, who previously reacted strongly to Brad Hogg’s incident, should speak up now,” another fan remarked.

The voice-over in question was taken from a recent press conference where Rohit Sharma addressed the media following India’s victory in the Champions Trophy. The decision of Multan Sultans to use those words in their promotional material has led to a widespread backlash from Indian cricket fans.
