AP Govt Appoints Defence Expert G. Satheesh Reddy as Honorary Advisor

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has appointed a prominent Indian defense scientist, G. Satheesh Reddy, currently serving as Advisor to the Union Ministry of Defence, as the Honorary Advisor (Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing Hub) to the state government with cabinet rank. This appointment is effective for an initial period of two years from the date he assumes office or until the necessity for the position ceases, whichever comes earlier.
According to the government order (G.O.Rt.No.573), issued on March 19, 2025, Reddy will provide strategic guidance to the state government on developing a robust defence manufacturing ecosystem. His role includes advising on policies for establishing industrial corridors, testing facilities, and innovation clusters. He will also help align state regulations with national defence policies and international standards.
Dr. Satheesh Reddy is tasked with facilitating partnerships between public and private stakeholders, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and global defence firms. His guidance will extend to improving the ease of doing business for defence manufacturers and promoting the integration of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity in defence production.
Additionally, Satheesh Reddy will support the establishment of centres of excellence for emerging defence technologies and recommend measures for skill development and workforce training in defence manufacturing. He will also advise on technology transfer and knowledge-sharing between defence research labs and industries.
The Infrastructure and Investment Department has been directed to take necessary steps to implement this appointment.
Dr. Satheesh Reddy recently met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to discuss strategies for fostering defense sector industries in the state. He proposed initiatives to support aspiring entrepreneurs and emphasized the potential of Vijayawada and Amaravati as hubs for aerospace and defense production. The state government assured swift approvals and infrastructure support to facilitate these projects.
Dr. Satheesh Reddy's extensive career includes serving as Chairman of DRDO and Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D. He has spearheaded numerous advanced defense technology programs, including India's Anti-Satellite (ASAT) missile test under "Mission Shakti." His contributions have earned him international recognition, including prestigious awards such as the Royal Aeronautical Society's Honorary Fellowship.
