Revanth Reddy Justifies Renaming of Potti Sriramulu Telugu University

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy explained the rationale behind renaming Potti Sriramulu Telugu University as Suravaram Pratap Reddy University. He stated that having universities and institutions with identical names in both Telugu-speaking states could lead to administrative challenges. Therefore, institutions in Telangana are being renamed to reflect the state's identity.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly while introducing bills related to SC categorization, BC reservations, and the university's renaming, Revanth Reddy recalled that several universities had undergone name changes after Telangana's formation. He cited examples such as Professor Jayashankar, Konda Laxman Bapuji, P. V. Narasimha Rao, and Kaloji Narayana Rao, after whom institutions were renamed for administrative efficiency. Similarly, Potti Sriramulu Telugu University has now been renamed after Suravaram Pratap Reddy, whom he praised for his contributions to Telangana society. Revanth Reddy highlighted Suravaram Pratap Reddy’s fight against the Nizam’s rule and his role in running the Golconda newspaper.

He clarified that the decision to rename the university was not against anyone but was made purely for administrative convenience. He affirmed the government's deep respect and trust towards the late former Chief Minister K. Rosaiah and the Arya Vaishya community. He urged political leaders not to exploit caste and religion for political gains.

Revanth Reddy announced that a letter would be sent to Union Ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, requesting that the Charlapalli Railway Terminal be named after Potti Sriramulu in recognition of his sacrifices for the nation. He called on the Union government to secure the necessary approvals for the name change.

Additionally, the Chief Minister declared that the Nature Cure Hospital in Balkampet would be renamed after former Chief Minister K. Rosaiah. Acknowledging Rosaiah’s extensive political experience, he noted his service as Governor, Chief Minister, and longtime Finance Minister. Revanth Reddy also announced plans to install a statue of Rosaiah near the hospital and hold official birth and death anniversary commemorations in his honor.
