Danish Kaneria Alleges Discrimination in Pakistan Cricket

Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has made controversial statements about his experiences in the national team, alleging severe discrimination. Speaking at an event in Washington, the former spinner claimed that religious bias played a significant role in the downfall of his cricket career. Kaneria stated that as a minority, he was not given the respect he deserved within the Pakistan team. He added that now, residing in the United States, he has the freedom to speak openly about the discrimination and hardships he faced in Pakistan.

Kaneria also launched a scathing attack on former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi, alleging that Afridi persistently pressured him to convert to Islam. He further claimed that fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar and several other players mistreated him during his career. According to Kaneria, his teammates even refused to share meals with him. However, he acknowledged that former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was the only leader who supported him and never pressured him to change his religion, treating him with respect.

Kaneria represented Pakistan in 61 Test matches and played a crucial role in several victories for the team. His latest remarks have reignited discussions on discrimination in Pakistan cricket, making it a hot topic in the cricketing world.
