Nitin Gadkari’s Key Remarks on Road Accidents

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari made significant remarks on the rising number of road accidents in the country. Speaking at the Global Road Infra Tech Summit and Expo, he attributed the increasing accidents to the errors of civil engineers and consultants.

Gadkari criticized the poor quality of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) being prepared for road infrastructure projects, stating that inadequate planning and flawed designs were contributing to accidents. He expressed concern that even minor mistakes by civil engineers were leading to a significant number of accidents. He further pointed out that the submission of defective DPRs was a major reason for road mishaps and lamented the lack of accountability for these errors.

The minister highlighted deficiencies in road signals and marking systems, stressing that even basic tasks were not being executed properly. He emphasized the need for India to learn from countries like Spain, Australia, and Switzerland in terms of road infrastructure and safety measures.

Gadkari revealed that in 2023 alone, 1,80,000 people lost their lives due to road accidents in India. He stated that the government has set a target to reduce road accidents by 50% by 2030.
