Bird Flu Impact: Chicken Centres Deserted on Sunday

Chicken sales in Telangana have declined sharply due to concerns over bird flu. Chicken centres, which are usually crowded on Sundays, remained largely empty today. However, despite the drop in demand, chicken prices have not decreased.

Chicken vendors, who typically experience brisk business on Sundays, reported a significant dip in sales this weekend. Many expressed concern that this trend has persisted over the past week. Fear of bird flu has deterred customers from buying chicken, leading many to opt for mutton and fish instead.

Despite growing public apprehension, chicken prices have remained unchanged. Last week, the price per kilogram ranged between ₹220 and ₹240. As of today, chicken is being sold at ₹220 per kg in Hyderabad and Vijayawada, while in Chittoor, the price has dropped to ₹160 per kg.

With declining chicken sales and increased demand for fish, fish sellers have raised their prices to capitalize on the situation.
