Veteran Actress and Producer Krishnaveni, Who Introduced NTR to Cinema, Dies at 102

Veteran actress and producer Krishnaveni, who made significant contributions to the Telugu film industry, passed away at the age of 102. She had been suffering from age-related health issues for some time and breathed her last on Sunday morning at her residence in Film Nagar, Hyderabad.
Krishnaveni played a pivotal role in shaping Telugu cinema, not only as an actress but also as a respected producer. She is credited with introducing legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) to the silver screen through the film Mana Desam in 1949. Additionally, she was instrumental in giving iconic music composer Ghantasala his first opportunity in the industry.
Born in Pangidi, West Godavari district, Krishnaveni showed an early interest in acting and began her career in theater. She made her film debut as a child artist in Anasuya (1936) and went on to star in numerous Telugu and Tamil films, earning a distinguished reputation. Apart from acting, she was also recognized as a talented playback singer, with her songs captivating audiences of that era.
Driven by her passion for cinema, Krishnaveni ventured into film production, producing Mana Desam, a film that marked the debut of NTR on the big screen. Her immense contributions to the Telugu film industry have left an indelible mark, and her demise is being mourned by many.
