Infosys Lays Off Over 400 Trainee Employees in a Single Day; Union Raises Complaint

The leading IT company Infosys has come under scrutiny for terminating over 400 trainee employees in a single day. The central Ministry of Labour has taken serious note of the issue after reports surfaced that Infosys not only dismissed the employees but also had security personnel escort them out of the premises.
The affected employees, along with the IT employees’ welfare association NITES (Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate), lodged a formal complaint with the Ministry of Labour, seeking intervention.
In response, the central labour ministry has written to the Karnataka state government, urging it to take necessary steps to address the situation. The ministry has recommended intervention regarding the mass layoffs at Infosys.
According to reports, some employees faced severe difficulties following their sudden dismissal. A young woman from Madhya Pradesh reportedly pleaded for permission to stay in her hostel for one more night, as she had nowhere to go, but Infosys allegedly denied her request. As a result, several employees from different states were forced to spend the night outside the Infosys campus, on the roadside. Photos of the situation went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.
Meanwhile, Infosys has defended its decision, stating that the hiring process at the company follows strict evaluation criteria. The company clarified that trainees undergo initial training at its Mysore campus and must pass internal assessments to qualify for permanent employment. Infosys specified that employees are given three attempts to clear these assessments, and failure to do so results in their termination, as per the agreement signed with them beforehand.
