Nirmala Sitharaman’s Key Remarks on Telangana’s Financial Situation

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made significant remarks regarding Telangana’s financial status. She stated that at the time of Andhra Pradesh’s bifurcation, Telangana had a surplus budget but later fell into debt. She emphasized that the NDA government at the Center does not discriminate against any state. Sitharaman also addressed opposition criticisms alleging that Telangana was treated unfairly in the Union Budget.

Speaking during the Rajya Sabha discussion on the Budget, Sitharaman asserted that Telangana received due consideration in the financial allocations. She dismissed claims that Bihar and other NDA-ruled states were given priority, stating that Telangana had also been allocated funds. She highlighted that the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park was sanctioned for Telangana.

Sitharaman further noted that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi contested and won elections from Medak in Telangana, but the railway station there was established under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. She also mentioned significant initiatives for Telangana, including the Sammakka-Sarakka tribal festival, the Ramagundam fertilizer plant, and the Turmeric Board. She clarified that the Turmeric Board was sanctioned by Prime Minister Modi.
