"Among This Generation’s Young Heroes, I Hold This Honor" – Vishwak Sen

Vishwak Sen is one of the young actors in Telugu cinema who carved a niche for himself without any industry background. His upcoming film Laila is set for release on February 14 and features him in a unique dual role, including a lady get-up. As part of the film’s promotions, Vishwak Sen shared insights about his experience in an interaction with the media.

Did you always want to play a lady get-up role?

"Every actor dreams of playing diverse roles in their career. In the past, we have seen actors don female avatars in films like Bhamane Satyabhamane, Madam, and Chitram Bhalare Vichitram. I always wanted to take on such a challenge. Fortunately, I got the right story, and audiences today are no longer interested in routine characters. Among this generation’s young heroes, no one has played a female role on screen in the past 20 years. I believe I have filled that gap. My lady get-up will surely entertain and make everyone laugh."

You play both Sonu and Laila in the film. Which character do you like more?

"Without a doubt, I loved playing Laila. I am sure the audience will fall in love with Laila too. Sonu’s character is also enjoyable, especially in the first half, where his modern lifestyle will be entertaining to watch."

Why does Sonu transform into Laila? What is Laila’s goal?

"That’s something you will have to experience in the film! Sonu adopts the identity of Laila to escape from three major problems in his life. Watching it unfold on screen will be much more exciting."

What was the preparation like for the lady get-up?

"Transforming into Laila took about two and a half hours every day. My makeup artist, Nikki, was extremely patient and ensured that every detail was perfect. I received a lot of appreciation for how natural my look appeared on screen."

What certificate did the film receive? The trailer suggests adult content.

"This is not adult content. The film is a youthful romantic comedy that guarantees laughter. There is no vulgarity whatsoever."

Chiranjeevi mentioned your response about the ‘compound’ question at the pre-release event. How did you feel?

"I found it interesting that he acknowledged my response. I thought the topic was closed after I addressed it, but Chiranjeevi sir recognizing my intent was a truly special moment for me."

You also wrote songs for Laila. What drew you to songwriting?

"I enjoy writing, so I gave it a shot. I told the director to use the lyrics only if he liked them, and fortunately, he did."

How did your family react to your lady get-up?

"They had fun with it! My mother and mother-in-law even picked sarees that would match my look and surprised me."

How was your experience visiting Mopidevi Subrahmanyeswara Swamy temple?

"It was a deeply fulfilling experience. Until the day before, we had not received landing permission, but by midnight, clearance was granted. I truly believe the deity himself called me there."

What is the best compliment you have received for Laila so far?

"Chiranjeevi garu saying on stage, ‘I feel like this role was meant for me,’ was the best compliment. I am confident Laila will be a memorable film in my career."
