SC to Hear KTR’s Petition on Defected MLAs Again on February 18

The Supreme Court heard a petition filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) regarding the disqualification of legislators who defected to the Congress party. KTR had approached the court alleging that the Telangana Assembly Speaker was delaying a decision on the disqualification petitions filed against these MLAs. The petition lists legislators Arikepudi Gandhi, Prakash Goud, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, P. Srinivas Reddy, Kale Yadayya, Mahipal Reddy, and M. Sanjay Kumar as respondents.

During the hearing, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the Assembly Secretary, argued that more time was needed to obtain additional information from the Speaker. He assured the court that discussions with the Speaker were ongoing and that necessary details would be submitted soon.

The Supreme Court bench, however, questioned the delay, noting that ten months had already passed since the issue was first raised. Despite this, the court accepted Rohatgi’s request and postponed the next hearing to February 18.
