Telangana Election Commission Halts New Ration Card Applications

Telangana Election Commission Halts New Ration Card Applications

The Election Commission of India has put a hold on new ration card applications in Telangana. On Friday, the state government announced that applicants could apply for new ration cards through MeeSeva centers. However, today, the Election Commission made a key decision to halt the application process.

With the Model Code of Conduct in effect for the upcoming Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections in Telangana, the Election Commission has ordered the immediate suspension of new ration card applications, as well as requests for modifications or additions.

The Telangana government had recently informed citizens that those who missed applying for ration cards during the Gram Sabha sessions could submit their applications at MeeSeva centers. It also allowed existing ration cardholders to request modifications and additions through the same centers. Official orders were issued to facilitate this process. However, citing the enforcement of the election code, the Election Commission has now directed that the acceptance of ration card applications be temporarily halted.
