Cabinet Clears Visakhapatnam Railway Zone, Fulfilling Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Promise

The Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of the South Coast Railway Zone with Visakhapatnam as its headquarters. This decision, made during the Cabinet meeting on Friday, marks a significant milestone in fulfilling one of the key promises made in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act.

As part of this decision, the existing Waltair railway division will be renamed as the Visakhapatnam Railway Division. Additionally, a new Rayagada Railway Division will be created and placed under the East Coast Railway Zone.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw briefed the media on the Cabinet’s decisions. He also announced that the Cabinet has approved allocations of ₹8,800 crore for the Skill India initiative, ₹6,000 crore for the PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0, and ₹858 crore for the Jan Shikshan Sansthan program.

The approval of the Visakhapatnam Railway Zone is seen as the fulfillment of a long-standing demand of the people of Uttarandhra.
