Nurse Uses Fevikwik Instead of Stitches for Wound Treatment in Karnataka

A peculiar incident occurred in Hanagal taluk of Haveri district, Karnataka, where a nurse at a local hospital used Fevikwik instead of stitches to treat a wound, sparking controversy. The nurse reportedly claimed that she had been using this method for a long time. Following complaints, higher authorities took action against her.

On January 14, a seven-year-old boy, Gurukishan Annappa Hosamani, sustained a cheek injury, and his parents took him to the Adoor Primary Health Center for treatment. Nurse Jyoti applied Fevikwik to the wound instead of stitching it. When questioned by the boy’s parents, she reportedly justified her actions, stating that she had been following this method for years to avoid permanent scars from stitches. The parents recorded a video of the incident and reported it to senior officials.

Authorities responded by initially transferring Nurse Jyoti. However, due to strong public backlash, she was later suspended. The Office of the Commissioner for Health and Family Welfare Services issued a statement clarifying that Fevikwik should not be used in medical procedures.
