Railway Restructuring: South Coast Zone Approved, Visakhapatnam as HQ

The long-standing demand of the people of North Andhra has been fulfilled with the establishment of a new railway zone in Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Railways has officially approved the formation of the South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone, headquartered in Visakhapatnam. As part of this restructuring, the existing Waltair Division will be renamed as Visakhapatnam Division and will be included within the South Coast Railway Zone. Additionally, the Vijayawada, Guntur, and Guntakal divisions will also be part of this new zone.

Furthermore, the Kondapalli-Motumarru section, which was previously under the jurisdiction of the Secunderabad Division, will now be merged into the Vijayawada Division. Kondapalli, located on the outskirts of Vijayawada, was earlier managed under the Secunderabad Division but will now be administered by the Vijayawada Division.

The newly formed South Coast Railway Zone will cover an area of approximately 410 kilometers. The establishment of this dedicated zone is expected to enhance railway services in Andhra Pradesh, ensuring improved transportation infrastructure while prioritizing the needs of regional passengers.
