Abhishek Sharma Breaks Virat Kohli's All-Time Record in T20 Series Against England

India’s young opening batsman Abhishek Sharma delivered a stellar performance in the five-match T20I series against England, playing a crucial role in Team India’s 4-1 series victory. In particular, the Punjab-born cricketer dominated the England bowling attack in the fifth T20I at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, scoring a blistering 135 runs off just 54 balls. His innings included an astounding 13 sixes, the highest number of sixes hit by an Indian batsman in a single international T20 match.

Across the five-match series, Abhishek Sharma amassed a total of 279 runs, surpassing the previous record set by Virat Kohli for the most runs by an Indian batsman in a bilateral T20I series against England. Kohli had scored 231 runs in the five-match T20I series against England in 2021.

Despite his remarkable feat, Abhishek Sharma is not yet the highest run-scorer for India in a single T20I series. That record is held by Tilak Varma, who scored 280 runs in just four innings against South Africa in 2024, including back-to-back centuries.

Most Runs by an Indian Batsman in a Single T20I Series:

280 – Tilak Varma (4 innings) vs South Africa, 2024
    279 – Abhishek Sharma (5 innings) vs England, 2025
    231 – Virat Kohli (5 innings) vs England, 2021
224 – KL Rahul (5 innings) vs New Zealand, 2020
