Hyderabad Techie Arrested for Robbing Colleague’s House Amid Financial Struggles

Hyderabad police have arrested a software engineer who resorted to robbery after failing to manage his extravagant lifestyle despite earning a monthly salary of ₹1.10 lakh. The accused, identified as Kalahasti Harish Krishna, originally from Khajipet in the YSR district, was living in Gajularamaram and working for a company in Gachibowli.

According to the Madhapur police, Harish Krishna had been living alone after divorcing his wife and had developed a habit of betting and extravagant spending. As a result, his salary was insufficient to cover his expenses and debts, leading him to turn to crime.

During this time, he befriended his colleague K.V. Manikantha, who lived in Chandranayak Thanda, Madhapur. Harish Krishna had visited Manikantha's house multiple times and eventually decided to rob it. On January 25, after confirming through a WhatsApp group chat that Manikantha was not at home, he carried out the crime.

At around 11:15 AM, Harish Krishna arrived at Manikantha's residence wearing a mask and a helmet. He threatened Manikantha’s wife with a knife, demanding her jewelry. When she resisted, she sustained a hand injury. Taking advantage of the situation, he forcibly snatched her gold bangles and fled the scene.

Later that day, Manikantha reported the incident to the police. During the investigation, police grew suspicious of Harish Krishna. Upon detaining him and examining his phone, they discovered a receipt indicating that he had sold the stolen bangles at a jewelry shop in Gajularamaram.

Following his arrest, police recovered the stolen 20 grams of gold bangles, the knife used in the robbery, his motorcycle, and his mobile phone. Harish Krishna was subsequently presented in court and remanded in judicial custody.
