Varun Chakravarthy Sets New Record in T20 Match Against England

Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy achieved a significant milestone during the third T20 match against England in Rajkot, which was part of the five-match T20I series. Chakravarthy delivered an exceptional bowling performance, claiming five wickets for just 24 runs. His scalps included England captain Jos Buttler, Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer. At one stage, England appeared strong at 83/1 but later collapsed to 127/8, largely due to Chakravarthy’s impact.

Since his return to T20 cricket last year, Varun Chakravarthy has played 10 matches, taking 27 wickets at an average of 10.96 and an economy rate of 7.4. His best bowling figures in T20Is stand at 7 wickets for 17 runs. Overall, he has claimed 29 wickets in 16 T20I matches.

In this match, Chakravarthy also became the first bowler to take 10 wickets in a bilateral T20 series between India and England, surpassing Kuldeep Yadav’s record of 25 wickets in 10 matches. Among all T20I bowlers, Chakravarthy now ranks third in terms of most wickets in a single bilateral series. Malaysia’s Syazrul Idrus holds the second position with 28 wickets, while Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan leads the chart with 30 wickets.

Despite Chakravarthy’s outstanding performance, England secured a 26-run victory, marking their first win of the series.
