Padma Awards Selection: Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Expresses Dissatisfaction

The Central Government announced the Padma Awards to honor distinguished individuals from various fields on the occasion of Republic Day. This year, seven individuals received the Padma Vibhushan, 19 were awarded the Padma Bhushan, and 113 were conferred the Padma Shri. However, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed dissatisfaction with the selection process for the Padma Awards, alleging bias by the Central Government.
Revanth Reddy stated that the Telangana government had proposed several prominent personalities, including Gaddar, Chukka Ramaiah, Andesri, Goreti Venkanna, and Jayadheer Tirumala Rao, for the Padma Shri. However, these recommendations were allegedly ignored by the Central Government. He remarked that this decision was an insult to the four crore people of Telangana. He further pointed out that while 139 individuals were honored with Padma Awards this year, Telangana was not even allocated a minimum of five awards, calling this a clear example of discrimination. Revanth Reddy is reportedly contemplating writing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the matter.
Despite his criticism, Revanth Reddy congratulated the awardees from the Telugu states who were recognized with Padma Awards. He extended his wishes to Dr. Nageshwar Reddy, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Manda Krishna Madiga, KL Krishna, Madugula Nagaphani Sharma, the late Miryala Appa Rao, Raghavendra Acharya, and Panchamukhi. Revanth Reddy acknowledged that their dedication and contributions in their respective fields had earned them these prestigious national honors.
