Centre Allocates ₹271 Crore for Development of Rajahmundry Railway Station

The central government has sanctioned ₹271 crore for the development of Rajahmundry Railway Station, ahead of the Godavari Pushkaralu scheduled to take place in 2027. Located within the Vijayawada Railway Division, the Rajahmundry Railway Station is a key transit point, serving thousands of passengers traveling to destinations such as Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Bhimavaram daily.
With an estimated annual traffic of 9,533 passengers per hour, detailed development plans were drafted to enhance the station’s infrastructure. Initially, under the Amrit Bharat Stations Scheme, ₹250 crore was allocated for development works, and tenders were invited. However, these tenders were canceled to accommodate revised proposals necessitated by the upcoming Pushkaralu event. The central government subsequently increased the funding by an additional ₹21 crore, bringing the total to ₹271 crore.
Recognizing the growing passenger volume, the railway department had previously resolved to upgrade Rajahmundry Railway Station with world-class amenities. The additional funds granted under the new proposals aim to cater to the anticipated rise in traffic during the Pushkaralu and to transform the station into a modern transit hub.
