ICC Announces ODI Team of the Year: Full of Surprises

The ICC has unveiled its ODI Team of the Year for 2024, and in a surprising twist, not a single Indian cricketer made the cut. This omission is particularly striking given that India was the runner-up in the most recent ODI World Cup, a testament to the team’s stellar performance on the global stage.
Another unexpected element of this announcement is the appointment of Sri Lankan cricketer Charith Asalanka as the captain of the squad. While his leadership skills and performances have been noteworthy, this decision has raised eyebrows across the cricketing fraternity.
Interestingly, the team features 10 players from Asian nations, with Sherfane Rutherford from the West Indies being the sole non-Asian inclusion. The absence of players from cricketing powerhouses like Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa further highlights the unconventional nature of this selection.
ICC ODI Team of the Year 2024:
Charith Asalanka (Captain) – Sri Lanka
Saim Ayub – Pakistan
Rahmanullah Gurbaz – Afghanistan
Pathum Nissanka – Sri Lanka
Kusal Mendis (Wicketkeeper) – Sri Lanka
Sherfane Rutherford – West Indies
Azmatullah Omarzai – Afghanistan
Wanindu Hasaranga – Sri Lanka
Shaheen Shah Afridi – Pakistan
Haris Rauf – Pakistan
Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar – Afghanistan
In the Women’s ICC ODI Team of the Year for 2024, Indian players Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma earned well-deserved spots, bringing pride to Indian cricket fans.
