Actress Gautami Raises Concerns Over Women’s Safety in Tamil Nadu

Actress and AIADMK Deputy Propaganda Secretary Gautami has alleged that sexual harassment against women and children in Tamil Nadu has risen since the DMK came to power. Addressing a meeting held in Chennai North East district to commemorate the 108th birth anniversary of M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), Gautami expressed concerns about the safety of women and children under the DMK administration.
She referenced the recent induction of actor Sathyaraj's daughter into the DMK, stating, “Anyone can join any political party of their choice, but the primary concern should be what they are doing for the people.”
Gautami criticized the DMK government for discontinuing welfare schemes implemented by the AIADMK. Highlighting the legacy of MGR, she said his nutritional meal program gained international recognition. She further noted that under Jayalalithaa's leadership, schemes like “Thalikku Thangam” (gold for marriage), free laptops, and subsidies for two-wheelers were introduced. Gautami also credited Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s tenure for the continuation of several welfare initiatives.
Gautami made these remarks during a welfare assistance distribution program organized as part of the celebrations honoring MGR.
