Death Sentence Is Appropriate for My Son," Says Sanjay Roy’s Mother

The mother of Sanjay Roy, the accused in the R.G. Kar Medical College trainee doctor’s murder case, has stated that the death penalty would be the appropriate punishment for her son. Sanjay Roy was found guilty by a Kolkata court in connection with the brutal assault and murder of a junior doctor, a case that shocked the state. The court is scheduled to announce the sentence on January 20.

In an emotional statement, Sanjay’s mother expressed her inability to forgive her son for his actions. "I have three daughters as well, and as a mother, I can never condone how my son behaved toward the trainee doctor. If such a tragedy happened to my own daughter, I can understand the pain and suffering the victim’s family must be going through," she said.

Sanjay Roy’s mother further added that she considered the deceased junior doctor as her own daughter. She acknowledged the gravity of the crime and clarified that the family would raise no objections if the court decided on the death penalty for her son. "However, as a mother, I may shed tears for my son’s death," she remarked.
