EPFO Simplifies Account Transfers: No Employer Permission Needed

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a significant update to ease the process of transferring EPF accounts. Many workers often face challenges related to their EPF accounts, particularly when dealing with previous and current employers. Issues such as account transfers, updating personal details, or entering the date of exit from a company have been sources of frustration for employees. To address these problems, EPFO has consistently made changes, with the latest update simplifying account transfers even further.

From Saturday, EPF account holders can now transfer their accounts without any involvement or approval from their employers. This new measure eliminates the need to approach employers, saving time and effort for employees. However, this facility applies only to accounts with a Universal Account Number (UAN) issued after October 1, 2017, that are linked with Aadhaar.

For individuals who have already applied for updates or transfers, such as changes to personal details, EPFO advises withdrawing those applications. Employees can now independently make these updates online. However, accounts created before 2017 will not be eligible for this facility, and transfers or updates for these accounts will still require employer intervention.
