Meta Plans to Replace Underperforming Employees, 3,600 Jobs at Risk

Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is reportedly preparing to lay off approximately 3,600 employees. The company’s decision comes after identifying underperforming staff, with plans to replace them with new hires. This layoff round is expected to affect nearly 5% of Meta’s total workforce. As of September last year, Meta employed around 72,400 people globally.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO, personally announced that the company would implement performance-based cuts, stating that the goal is to strengthen the organization's talent pool. "This move is aimed at ensuring we have strong performers across the board," Zuckerberg noted, adding that Meta plans to bring in new talent to fill the vacated roles.

Performance-driven layoffs have become increasingly common among U.S. tech companies. Last week, Microsoft also made a similar announcement, revealing that it would cut less than 1% of its total workforce.
