AP Govt Issues New Order Granting Extra Holiday for Banks
The Andhra Pradesh government has made a key decision regarding Sankranti holidays for public sector bank employees. An additional day of leave has been granted, with orders issued by AP Chief Secretary K.S. Vijay Anand on Monday.
Initially, as per the 2025 government holiday calendar, only January 14 had been declared as the Sankranti holiday for public sector banks. The government had specified that banks must remain operational on Kanuma day (Wednesday). Following this announcement, the United Forum for Bank Unions and the AP State Union submitted a representation to the state government, requesting that a holiday be declared for Kanuma day as well.
Responding positively to the unions' appeal, the Andhra Pradesh government decided to extend the holiday by one more day for bank employees. Accordingly, the government revised its earlier order (G.O. No. 2116, issued on December 6, 2024) and released a new order (G.O. No. 73) on Monday, granting the additional leave.
