Teenage son ends life over smartphone; heartbroken father follows

A tragic incident unfolded in Nanded, Maharashtra, where a father and son both committed suicide, leaving their village in a state of shock. The distressing sequence of events began when the teenage son, Omkar, took his life after his father could not fulfill his request for a smartphone. Unable to bear the loss of his son, the father also ended his life.

Omkar, aged 16, was a student in the 10th grade. He was the youngest among three brothers, all of whom were residing in a hostel in Udgir for their education. Omkar had returned to his native village for the Makar Sankranti holidays. During his visit, he requested his father to buy him a smartphone, explaining that he needed it for online classes and other educational purposes.

However, due to financial difficulties, his father was unable to fulfill the request. This left Omkar deeply disappointed. Feeling hurt and upset, he left the house in distress. When Omkar did not return, his father began searching for him, only to discover his lifeless body hanging from a tree in their farmland.

Devastated by the sight, the grief-stricken father brought down Omkar’s body and, in a moment of unbearable anguish, used the same rope to hang himself from the same tree.

The local police have registered a case and sent both bodies for post-mortem examination. After the procedure, the bodies were handed over to the family. The tragic loss of both father and son has plunged the entire village into mourning, with residents expressing deep sorrow over the incident.
