Jasprit Bumrah Tops List of Indian Bowlers with Most Wickets in 2024
The year 2024 marked a historic period for Indian cricket as the team achieved significant milestones, including clinching the ICC T20 World Cup after a gap of nearly 17 years. Additionally, Team India secured crucial victories in bilateral series across formats. Among the key contributors to these successes were the Indian bowlers, who delivered stellar performances and amassed a large number of wickets.
Leading the charge was star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who emerged as the top wicket-taker across all formats in 2024. Bumrah scalped an impressive 86 wickets in 34 innings, demonstrating exceptional consistency and skill. His outstanding performances reinforced his status as the world’s number-one bowler.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja secured the second spot, taking 49 wickets in 28 innings. Despite competition from seasoned spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja’s remarkable achievement stood out. However, his impact was more pronounced in Test cricket as his performances in limited-overs formats were less effective.
Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently announced his retirement, claimed 47 wickets in just 21 innings, placing him third on the list. Notably, Ashwin’s contributions came exclusively in Test matches, underscoring his continued dominance in the longest format of the game.
Young all-rounder Washington Sundar delivered impressive performances, taking 40 wickets in 23 innings. His growth has been notable under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has provided him with ample opportunities. Sundar is increasingly being seen as a successor to Ravichandran Ashwin, given his potential to excel as an off-spinner.
Hyderabad pacer Mohammed Siraj rounded out the top five Indian bowlers, also claiming 40 wickets in 34 innings. Siraj remained a key player for India across all three formats, showcasing his adaptability and value to the team.
