AP Cancels Official New Year Celebrations
The Andhra Pradesh government has directed officials to refrain from organizing any official New Year celebrations today, as the nation observes a week-long mourning period following the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, as declared by the central government.
In an official circular, the General Administration Department instructed district collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) to treat the day as a regular working day. It clarified that routine administrative activities, including meetings with officials, can proceed as usual.
However, the government specifically advised against celebratory activities such as cake-cutting or similar events. In cases of doubt regarding government protocols, officials were instructed to refer to the central government circular or the Blue Book for clarification.
The directive further emphasized that until the mourning period concludes, no official events, meet-and-greet programs, or celebrations should take place in accordance with the central government’s guidelines.
