‘The King is Dead’: Former RCB Coach Simon Katich Criticizes Kohli’s Poor Form

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) coach and Australian batter Simon Katich has made sharp remarks on Indian star batter Virat Kohli’s poor performance during the fourth Test against Australia. Following Kohli’s failure to contribute significantly, Katich commented, “The King is dead.”

India, chasing a target of 340 runs set by Australia, suffered a crushing 184-run defeat in their second innings. Kohli managed to score only 5 runs before being dismissed, continuing a string of disappointing performances. This marked a stark contrast to his century in the second innings of the Perth Test earlier in the series. Since that high point, Kohli has been underwhelming, scoring just 7, 11, 3, 36, and 5 runs in subsequent innings.

Speaking on Kohli’s form, Katich remarked, “The King is dead,” adding that Kohli appears to be struggling and that the mantle has seemingly passed to Jasprit Bumrah. Katich further noted Kohli’s visible frustration and described it as a significant setback for the former Indian captain.

Meanwhile, Bumrah has emerged as a standout performer in the series, showcasing extraordinary bowling skills. The pacer has taken 30 wickets at an average of 12.83. Over his Test career, Bumrah has played 44 matches, claiming 203 wickets, solidifying his position as a pivotal figure in the Indian bowling attack.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s final and decisive Test is scheduled to commence on January 3 in Sydney, where both teams will battle for the series outcome.
