Taliban Issues Another Repressive Order Restricting Women: No Windows in Homes
The Taliban, continuing their oppressive policies against women since taking control of Afghanistan, have issued a new order further restricting women's visibility and freedoms. This directive mandates that newly constructed homes should not have windows allowing women to be visible from the outside. For existing homes, the Taliban have instructed that such windows should be sealed off.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the Taliban government, stated on the platform X that the presence of women near kitchens, courtyards, or wells visible to outsiders could lead to objectionable situations. To prevent such scenarios, he urged that walls or other structures be built to ensure women remain hidden from view.
This directive follows a series of severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women, including barring them from education, gyms, and public parks, and enforcing rules that women cannot leave their homes without a male companion. These measures have sparked widespread international condemnation, with the latest decree drawing renewed attention to the Taliban's harsh policies.
Municipal authorities have reportedly been tasked with inspecting new constructions to ensure compliance with these guidelines, raising further concerns about the already limited rights and freedoms of Afghan women.
