Two Telangana Constables Die by Suicide in Separate Incidents
Two tragic incidents involving constables occurred in Telangana on the same day, with one succumbing to online fraud and the other reportedly unable to cope with threats of extortion.
Online Fraud Claims One Life
Bandari Balakrishna, 34, a head constable with the 17th Battalion in Sircilla district, hailed from Lingannapet village in Gambhiraopet Mandal but was residing in Siddipet. He became a victim of an online financial fraud involving a private finance company called "Phoenix."
Balakrishna had borrowed and invested ₹25 lakh in hopes of earning high returns with minimal risk. After realizing he had been defrauded, he struggled to find a way to repay the debt. Plagued by financial distress, he decided to take his own life, reportedly after convincing his wife, Manasa, to join him in the act.
In a suicide note, the couple stated that no one was responsible for their decision. They attempted to end their lives by consuming poison-laced tea. When the poison failed to act, Balakrishna reportedly moved to another room and hanged himself. Manasa immediately alerted family members, who informed the police.
Balakrishna, Manasa, and their children were rushed to the Siddipet Government Hospital, where doctors declared Balakrishna dead on arrival. The children were transferred to a Hyderabad hospital for advanced care. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Extortion Threats Lead to Another Death
In another incident, Saikumar, 50, a head constable at Kolcharam Police Station in Medak district, died by suicide early in the morning. He was found hanging from a tree in the station premises.
According to his wife, Shailaja, Saikumar had been acquaintances with a woman who ran a tiffin center in Narsapur. The woman's husband and son-in-law allegedly began blackmailing and demanding money from Saikumar. Unable to bear the harassment, Saikumar reportedly ended his life.
Police have registered a case based on Shailaja’s complaint and are investigating the matter.
