Melbourne Test: Fourth Day Ends, Australia's Lead Surpasses 300

In the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Melbourne, the fourth day's play concluded with Australia securing a commanding 333-run lead, including their first innings advantage. In their second innings, Australia managed 228 runs for the loss of nine wickets, despite early setbacks inflicted by Indian bowlers.

After India was bowled out for 369 in their first innings earlier in the day, Australia's second innings began on a shaky note. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj delivered sharp spells that left the Australian batting order reeling. At one point, Australia was struggling at 91 for six. However, a crucial partnership between skipper Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon (41 runs) steadied the innings.

Pat Cummins scored 41 before being dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja. Lyon, who also scored 41, remains unbeaten alongside Scott Boland, who is on 10 runs.

India's first innings, which resumed this morning at an overnight score of 358/9, added just 11 runs before being bowled out for 369. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who starred with an outstanding century yesterday, was dismissed for 114, marking the end of India's innings.

With a 333-run advantage and only one day remaining, Australia appears to be in a strong position. The pitch is expected to continue favoring bowlers on the final day, potentially increasing pressure on the Indian side. If India can effectively counter Australia's bowling attack, the match could end in a draw.
