Telugu Cricketer Nitish Kumar Reddy Scores Maiden Century; Emotional Moment for His Father in Stadium

Nitish Kumar Reddy, a rising star from Andhra Pradesh, showcased his brilliance by scoring his maiden century in international Test cricket. Playing in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Nitish rescued India from a precarious position with a gritty knock. Facing 176 balls, he scored 105 runs, which included 10 fours and a six. He reached his century in style, smashing a boundary off Scott Boland.

The landmark innings received a standing ovation from Team India players, including captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who stood applauding from the pavilion. Spectators in the stadium joined in the celebrations, cheering enthusiastically for the young all-rounder.

At 21 years and 216 days, Nitish became one of the youngest Indian cricketers to score a century on Australian soil. Only Sachin Tendulkar (18 years, 256 days) and Rishabh Pant (21 years, 92 days) achieved the feat at a younger age.

A Father’s Emotional Moment

Nitish’s father, Muthyala Reddy, who was present at the stadium, was moved to tears of joy. Speaking to commentator Adam Gilchrist, he expressed, “This is a very special day for our family. We will never forget this moment. My son has been playing brilliantly since he was 14 or 15 years old, and now performing at the international level is an extraordinary feeling.”

When asked about his emotions as Nitish approached the century with India nine wickets down, Muthyala Reddy admitted he was extremely tense.

Immediately after Nitish completed his century, bad light forced the umpires to call off play for the day. At the end of the third day, India’s score stood at 358/9, with Nitish Kumar Reddy unbeaten on 105 and Mohammed Siraj on 2. India trails Australia’s first-innings total of 474 by 116 runs.
