New Year Wishes Scam: Beware or Risk Losing Your Bank Account!
Cybercriminals have devised a new method of deception, exploiting the festive season to target unsuspecting individuals. Under the guise of New Year wishes, discount coupons, or event passes, they are sending fraudulent links to steal personal and financial information, cybercrime officials warned.
Victims often receive messages appearing to be from reputable organizations, offering event passes or discounts at seemingly low prices. However, clicking on these links can result in the hacking of the recipient’s phone. Once compromised, the criminals gain unauthorized access to sensitive data, including bank account details, and may further exploit victims through blackmail.
Officials highlighted that forwarding such links can also put others at risk of falling into the same trap. Cyber experts have urged the public not to trust New Year greetings, discount offers, or event pass links from unknown sources.
"Clicking on these suspicious links grants control of your device to the criminals. This can lead to the complete draining of your bank account, followed by potential blackmail," they warned. Users are strongly advised to exercise caution and avoid engaging with unsolicited New Year greetings or links promising enticing discounts.
