Justice DY Chandrachud Clarifies NHRC Chairman Appointment Rumors

Justice DY Chandrachud, former Chief Justice of India, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is being considered for the position of Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Responding to recent media speculation, he clarified that there is no truth to these claims.

Justice Chandrachud emphasized that he has no intention of accepting any new role at the moment. “I am currently enjoying my retirement peacefully with my family,” he stated, urging the public not to believe such reports.

The NHRC Chairman's position has been vacant since June 1, following the retirement of Justice Arun Kumar Mishra earlier this year. In light of this vacancy, rumors emerged that the central government was considering Justice Chandrachud for the role. However, his categorical denial has put an end to such speculations.
