JPC on ‘One Nation, One Election’: Priyanka Gandhi Included in Committee

The Indian government has established a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to deliberate on the proposal for ‘One Nation, One Election’. The JPC comprises 31 members from different political parties, including 21 Lok Sabha members and 10 Rajya Sabha members. Among the notable members are Priyanka Gandhi, who recently won from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, and representatives from the Telugu states, CM Ramesh and Vallabhaneni Balashouri.

The central government aims to conduct Lok Sabha and state assembly elections simultaneously. To this end, a bill has been introduced in the parliament, and the JPC has been formed to review these bills.

The 21 Lok Sabha members in the JPC include P.P. Chaudhary, CM Ramesh, Bansuri Swaraj, Purushottam Bhai Rupala, Anurag Singh Thakur, Vishnu Dayal Ram, Bhartruhari Mahtab, Sambit Patra, Anil Baluni, Vishnu Dutt Sharma, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Manish Tiwari, Sukhdev Bhagat, Dharmendra Yadav, Kalyan Banerjee, T.M. Selva Ganapathi, G.M. Harish Balayogi, Supriya Sule, Shrikant Eknath Shinde, Chandan Chauhan, and Vallabhaneni Balashouri. Additionally, ten members have been proposed from the Rajya Sabha.
