Begging Banned in Indore from January 1; Case Against Those Who Give Money

Indore city in Madhya Pradesh will enforce a complete ban on begging from January 1, 2025. Authorities announced that anyone found giving money to beggars will face legal action, with FIRs registered against them. This move is aimed at transforming Indore into a beggar-free city.

Indore District Collector Ashish Singh revealed that the administration intends to conduct awareness campaigns by the end of December. He urged citizens not to provide financial assistance to beggars but instead help relocate them to rehabilitation centers.

The central government has initiated a pilot project aimed at creating beggar-free cities across 10 major urban centers, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Authorities in Indore have conducted surveys uncovering surprising details about the city’s beggars. Some were found to own permanent houses, while others have children with stable jobs. This insight prompted the administration to ban begging as a measure against anti-social activities.

Project Officer Dinesh Mishra stated that beggars would be moved to rehabilitation centers as part of the initiative.
