Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Clarifies Privatization Rumors

The Indian government has faced accusations from opposition parties about plans to privatize the railway sector. In response, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw clarified the government’s stance while addressing the Lok Sabha on Wednesday after the approval of the Railway (Amendment) Bill, 2024.

The bill was passed through a voice vote following an extensive debate. During the discussion, Minister Vaishnaw dismissed the opposition’s allegations, urging them not to mislead the public with false narratives.

He emphasized that the Railway (Amendment) Bill aims to enhance the operational efficiency of the Railway Board and strengthen its autonomy. The minister asserted that the government's focus is on modernizing and reinforcing the railway system while ensuring passenger safety remains a top priority.

According to Vaishnaw, the amendment will empower the Railway Board to make more independent decisions, further contributing to the sector’s development. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding and upgrading the national rail network, ruling out any compromises on safety or public interest.
