Nara Lokesh Leads AI Innovation Drive: AP Signs MoU with Google

In a landmark development, the Andhra Pradesh government has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google to enhance Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based initiatives in the state. The agreement was signed at the AP Secretariat in the presence of Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics, and Real-Time Governance (RTG). Google Maps India General Manager Lalitha Ramani and AP Real-Time Governance Secretary Suresh Kumar formalized the collaboration.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Nara Lokesh stated that the state government's primary objective is to improve citizens' quality of life by making government services easily accessible through mobile devices. The initiative reflects the AP government's commitment to integrating advanced technology into governance to streamline processes and enhance service delivery. Nara Lokesh also highlighted the collaboration's potential to empower youth by offering AI-based training and career opportunities, which would position Andhra Pradesh as a global leader in AI-driven innovation.

“Improving the 'Ease of Living' has been the focus of our government. This agreement with Google will not only accelerate AI advancements in the state but will also provide international-standard skill development opportunities for the youth,” Nara Lokesh remarked. He added that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu envisions utilizing cutting-edge technology to deliver better governance and public services.

Lalitha Ramani, General Manager of Google Maps India, praised the AP government’s forward-thinking approach, stating, “This MoU aligns with Chief Minister Naidu’s vision of leveraging Artificial Intelligence in governance to provide faster and better services to citizens. Google is committed to empowering communities by advancing AI-based solutions to address societal challenges.”

Highlights of the MoU

Education and Skill Development:
  • Google will train 10,000 students and developers in AI-based skills through its "Google Essentials" program.
  • Training will include practical applications of AI in daily life, enhancing productivity, and improving efficiency using AI.
  • Certifications in fields like cybersecurity, data analytics,  generative AI, and Google Cloud will be offered.
  • Google will collaborate with government agencies to provide skilling programs and extend technical support to educators in line with the growing demand for computer science education.
  • Google Developer Community programs will provide access to Android and app development skill training.

Startup Ecosystem Enablement:
  • Google will support innovation and entrepreneurship by providing mentorship, networking opportunities, and access to startup accelerator programs.
  • Eligible AI startups will receive cloud credits, technical training, and business support.
  • Google will work closely with Andhra Pradesh's startup ecosystem to promote AI-driven innovations.

Sustainability:
  • Google will provide AI-based solutions to address challenges related to air quality, urban planning, and disaster management.

Healthcare:
  • Google will collaborate to improve healthcare services by using AI to enhance patient outcomes and accelerate health solutions.
  • Access to Health AI imaging models and research programs through the Health AI Developer Foundations (HAI-DEF) will be provided.
  • AI applications for improving healthcare productivity using Large Language Models (LLMs) will be explored.

AI Pilot Projects:
  • Google will assist with pilot projects in key areas such as agriculture, traffic management, website modernization, and citizen grievance resolution.
  • Cloud technology and AI will be leveraged to implement these projects effectively.

The collaboration represents a significant step for Andhra Pradesh in embracing AI-based solutions to drive economic growth, enhance public services, and create a sustainable and technologically advanced future.
