Cyclone 'Fengal' Makes Landfall, Heavy Rains in Parts of Andhra Pradesh
Cyclone 'Fengal,' which formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal, has made landfall. The cyclone's front crossed the coast between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the cyclone is moving in a west-southwest direction.
During its landfall, wind speeds were recorded at around 90 kilometers per hour for approximately three to four hours. Currently, the cyclone is centered about 90 kilometers south of Chennai and is moving at a speed of 7 kilometers per hour over the past six hours, according to the IMD.
Due to the impact of the cyclone, the IMD's Amaravati division has forecasted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall today and tomorrow in the southern coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and the Rayalaseema region. Some areas may witness very intense rainfall. Additionally, wind speeds in the southern coastal and Rayalaseema districts are expected to reach up to 70 kilometers per hour today.
