Dalit Organizations File Complaint Against Former Minister Roja

Dalit organizations have filed a complaint against former minister and YSRCP leader Roja at the Kurnool Three Town Police Station. The complaint accuses her of making a Dalit employee carry her footwear at Suryalanka Beach in Bapatla, Guntur district. Following the complaint, police have reportedly registered a case against her.

In February 2023, Roja, serving as the Tourism Minister at the time, visited Suryalanka Beach. Before stepping into the water, she removed her footwear on the shore and instructed her staff to take care of them. A resort employee working under the Tourism Department was seen carrying her footwear. Photos and videos of the incident went viral on social media at the time.

Dalit organizations allege that this act was demeaning and disrespectful towards Dalits. Citing this incident, representatives of Dalit groups filed a formal complaint against Roja today at the Kurnool police station.
