Supreme Court Dismisses KCR's Petition, Inquiry Commission to Continue

BRS chief KCR faced a setback in the Supreme Court. The Telangana government had set up a commission with Justice Narasimha Reddy as the chairman to investigate the irregularities in the purchase of electricity from Chhattisgarh and the construction of the Yadadri and Bhadradri power plants. However, KCR approached the Supreme Court to cancel this commission.

The Supreme Court bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, reviewed KCR's petition. The bench dismissed KCR's petition and stated that the commission's investigation should continue. It also noted that there was no need to issue a new notification. The court clarified that the commission should operate as an inquiry commission rather than a judicial inquiry.

Additionally, the Supreme Court ordered the appointment of a new chairman in place of Narasimha Reddy. Following this, the Telangana government informed the Supreme Court that they would replace the commission's chairman. The government mentioned that consultations were underway with retired judges and requested time to announce the new chairman's name by Monday.
