Delhi Liquor Case: Court Allows CBI to Interrogate BRS MLC Kavitha in Tihar Jail

In a significant development in the Delhi liquor policy case, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) permission to interrogate BRS MLC Kavitha in Tihar Jail, where she is currently under judicial custody. The CBI had filed a petition seeking permission to question Kavitha inside the jail premises, which was approved by the court. The court has stipulated that jail authorities must be informed one day prior to the interrogation, and female constables must be present during the questioning. All regulations must be adhered to during the interrogation, and the CBI intends to record Kavitha's statement.

Last year in December, CBI officials interrogated Kavitha over three days at her residence in Hyderabad. With the court's permission, the CBI plans to question her again next week, based on previous statements, information from approvers, and other accused in the case. Following this interrogation, there might be an opportunity for the CBI to file another charge sheet.

The CBI had registered a case under the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, based on allegations of corruption and manipulation in the Delhi liquor policy, which reportedly benefited certain private individuals. There are allegations that the Aam Aadmi Party received Rs. 100 crores in connection with this case. Information found on Buchi Babu's phone and matters related to land acquisition are also likely grounds for CBI to question Kavitha.
