Actress-Turned-Politician Sumalatha Joins BJP

Prominent actress and Mandya MP, Sumalatha (60), has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She officially became a part of the BJP on Friday morning in Karnataka's capital, Bengaluru. Sumalatha had recently announced her intention to join the BJP. She has revealed her support for the NDA and JD(S) alliance in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Sumalatha has already declared her support for NDA candidate H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Sumalatha stated that she is not leaving Mandya and promised to continue working for the people in the coming days, explaining her decision to join the BJP. Following the death of her husband, Ambareesh, Sumalatha contested as an independent candidate from Mandya and won against Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of H.D. Kumaraswamy, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. She received support from the BJP during those elections, for which she has now expressed her gratitude by joining the party and stepping away from contesting.
