CBSE, ICSE, IB schools must teach Telugu from 1 to 10 in Telangana, circular issued

Hyderabad, July 8: Director of School Education (DSE) A. Devasena issued a circular to CBSE, ICSE, IB, and private schools in Telangana reminding them that they should teach Telugu as compulsory subject from first to tenth standard from the academic year 2022-23 as per GO issued in 2018 by the Telangana government.

The circular said that Telugu text books prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) are available on NCERT’s website and DSE directed schools to appoint Telugu teachers. Separate Telugu books are available for non-Telugu speaking students on website.

The circular mentioned if any school fails to follow the GO, Rs 50,000 fine will be imposed and second time Rs 1 lakh. “If the school continues to violate GO then notice will be served for cancellation of registration,” it said. The DSE also wrote letters to chairpersons of CBSE, ICSE and IB and asked them to instruct their board schools to teach Telugu for students of all classes.
