SC directs CBI, Centre to file counter over CID custodial torture plea by MP Raghu Rama

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the CBI, India’s top investigating agency, and the Central government to file a counter affidavit within two weeks after hearing the petition of Bharath, son of YSRCP rebel MP Raghu Rama Krishna Raju. The petition was filed 11 months ago alleging that the AP CID had tortured the MP in the custody.
 
The Bench comprising Justice Vineet Saran and Justice J. K. Maheshwari have asked the petitioner to file rejoinder in next two weeks after the submission of counter affidavit. The Apex Court instructed the registry to list the next hearing after four weeks.
 
While hearing the petition, the Bench made critical comments. The SC stated that they are ready to hear the plea in the night also if it is serious and urgent matter. However, the top court informed the petitioner that the petition will be expedited as early as possible and adjourned the hearing.
