Tension prevails in Nuzvid; TDP, YSRCP leaders arrested
Nuzvid (Krishna): Tension prevailed in Nuzvid in Krishna district as the war of words has been going between the YSRCP and TDP leaders for the past 10 days over the development of the town. Recently, the leaders of both sides challenged for an open debate this evening at the Gandhi statue centre here on Saturday.
Police arrested TDP leader Muddaraboina Venkateshwara Rao in connection with the incident. Similarly, YSRCP MLA Meka Pratap Appa Rao has been placed under house arrest. Police made it clear that public discussion was not allowed.
Section 144 was imposed in the town in view of the tensions between TDP and YSRCP. More than 400 policemen were deployed in the town. The TDP leader went into hiding on Friday assuming that he would be arrested by the police. However, he came to the Gandhi statue centre keeping up his promises for a public debate. But, he was taken into police custody upon his arrival.
